Are you really using FTP?

Yes, we are using the FTP protocol on the standard port 21 to transfer the files to your FTP server.

Will you be adding other protocols like SFTP?

Yes, we plan on adding support for other protocols in the future. Stay tuned!

How do I take out the DesignFTP branding?

Our upcoming paid plans do not include the DesignFTP branding. Please contact us if you would like to upgrade to a paid account before they are publicly released.

File Transfer Protocol Settings

File Transfer Protocol (FTP) is a network protocol used to transfer data from one computer to another through a network. Learn more at Wikipedia.

Hostname This is usually a domain name like ftp.yoursite.com or an IP address such as 123.456.78.90. If you don't know the address your hosting provider may be able give it to you.

Username This is given to you by your hosting provider.

Password This is given to you by your hosting provider.

Initial Path FTP path tells DesignFTP where to place the files uploaded. This is the directory structure on your server.

httpdocs/uploads/

If all this sounds a bit complicated, try contacting your hosting provider for help. They can tell you how things should be set up for your specific server.

File Size Limit

Individual file limit is 600MB.

Free Account and Paid Limits

We allow 10 file transfers and or 1GB of bandwidth per month, which ever comes first. Our Professional Pay Plans will increase these limits. You can view the upgrade possibilities and plans. Email us if you need more than what is in the Free Public account.

How many sites can I have?

You can have an unlimited amount of sites. So add as many as you want!

Do the sites combine to meet the account limit?

Yes, all the site do share your accounts limit. You can add an unlimited amount of sites to your account, but they will be limited by the amount of bandwidth or the amount of files they share.

Directory Permissions

You must set your directory to a permission level of: 755
